Mark's Story

Mark Emsley – Musician, Guitar Specialist & Recording Artist

Mark Emsley is a UK-based guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter from Bedford whose musical journey began at an early age. Initially learning piano and reading music as a child, his natural ability quickly became evident when he won the Bedfordshire Youth Music Festival at just 10 years old. By his mid-teens, music had become a serious pursuit, setting the foundation for a lifelong career that would take him across the globe as both a performer and respected guitar industry professional.

Over the years, Mark has toured internationally, performing with a wide range of bands while developing a strong reputation for both musicianship and technical expertise. Alongside performing, he has worked with some of the world’s leading guitar, amplifier, and effects manufacturers, including Fender, Line 6, and Hughes & Kettner, demonstrating products and representing brands at major events and venues worldwide.

Mark’s technical expertise has placed him behind the scenes with major international artists, specialising in building and maintaining professional guitar rigs and supporting touring musicians. His work has included involvement with artists such as Bon Jovi, Meat Loaf, Oasis, and musicians connected to David Bowie, including sharing the stage with guitarist Earl Slick. He also spent significant time working with Andrew W.K., contributing to live setups and performances.

A standout achievement in Mark’s career includes his involvement with Iron Maiden, where he played a role in the development and manufacturing of early signature instruments for guitarist Dave Murray and bassist Steve Harris, including the original signature bass featuring the iconic West Ham logo. His technical work also included preparing original bassist Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan’s distinctive Manchester City blue bass during his time connected with Oasis.

Mark has contributed to the development of artist signature equipment, including work on the distinctive purple-glow signature amplifier created for Alex Lifeson of Rush, developed in collaboration with Hughes & Kettner. He has also been involved in amplifier work connected to renowned guitarist Johnny Marr, further reflecting his role within professional-level gear development and artist support.

Mark has collaborated with respected figures within the recording world, including working alongside Andy Strange, producer and songwriting partner to Robbie Williams and former chief engineer at Abbey Road Studios. His songwriting and recording work has also benefited from constructive feedback and guidance from Phil Solem of The Rembrandts.

Today, Mark focuses on releasing his own original music as a solo artist, performing lead vocals and guitar on his recordings while writing his own songs and lyrics. His music blends melodic rock, classic rock influences, and singer-songwriter storytelling, drawing on decades of experience from both the stage and the studio.

From international stages to world-class guitar rigs, Mark Emsley’s career represents a lifetime dedicated to music, songwriting, and the craft of guitar.
